NEA, AFT: Public Education Support Is Strong & Resistance To Devos Is Only Beginning

Despite an unprecedented massive public outcry against her, billionaire charter school crusader Betsy Devos was confirmed as Education Secretary.

Vice-President Mike Pence broke a 50-50 U.S. Senate vote tie to confirm her.

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten called it a sad day for children. But Weingarten says there's a silver lining in the confirmation battle: an engaged highly vocal public supporting public education.

National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen García says there was a nationwide bipartisan repudiation of the Trump-Devos education agenda for public education. And she says that was "only the beginning of the resistance."
