Bernie Sanders Blasts Trump Budget Director For Serving The Billionaire Class

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders pulled no punches in a recent hearing blasting Trump budget director Mick Mulvaney for a budget that takes massive amounts of money from programs serving the poor in order to give to the rich. This exchange focused on Trump wanting to repeal the estate tax to deliver huge tax breaks to the top one percent.

Sen. Bernie Sanders: “Your budget thinks that it is good public policy to  provide $52 billion in tax breaks to the wealthiest family in this country.  A family already worth $128 billion dollars.

You think that a family like the Walton family where the one guy that owns four Ferraris and one Maserati that’re worth more than $65 million dollars are just in desperate need of massive ,massive tax breaks. You think that Sheldon Adelson, who among other things contribute d five billion dollars for the Trump inaugural is in need of a massive tax break as well as the Koch brothers.

So my question is pretty simple. I want you to tell the American people why you think it is a good idea to give $3 trillion in tax breaks to the top one percent at a time when the rich are becoming much richer while at the same time you’re going to throw 17 million children in this country off of health insurance because of the unconscionable cuts that you are making to Medicaid.”

Mick Mulvaney: “ If we want to have a talk about why we are repealing that (the estate tax) I’d be more than happy to do that.”

Bernie Sanders: “Good, let’s tell me.”

Mick Mulvaney: “ Because ordinary people are paying more.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders: “ No, ordinary people do not have a wealth of a hundred twenty eight billion dollars.”
