National Nurses United will join Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Chuck Schumer and other supporters of Medicare and Social Security in Washington D.C. Wednesday to demand hands off Medicare and Social Security.
They will deliver a petition opposing cuts to these vital programs. Martha Kuhl is an RN and Secretary-Treasurer of National Nurses United.
[Martha Kuhl]: "The petition we're gonna present is a petition that has over one million signatures on it demanding that Trump, Ryan and Mitch McConnell keep their hands off our Medicare and our Social Security benefits.
Medicare and Social Security are very popular programs and prior attempts to un-do them, privatize them, take them away have met with great resistance. And this is part of that resistance.
Nobody believes that Trump's election means that we should no longer have Medicare or Social Security."
Kuhl says National Nurses United are staunchly opposed to Paul Ryan's schemes to destroy these vital and beloved programs.
[Martha Kuhl]: "Because we are nurses on the front line caring for patients daily, we really see the effects of the current income inequality in our society. And preserving basic human rights and basic social programs is important to all of of us."
