Biden moves fast on pro-labor agenda

On his first day in office, newly inaugurated President Biden sent a letter asking General Counsel Peter Robb of the National Labor Relations Board for his resignation—and advising him that if he did not resign, he would be fired.
Robb refused to resign; he was discharged the same day. No other GC has been fired in the history of the agency. One was asked to resign, many decades ago.
Many in the labor movement had pushed for Robb’s removal; they cheered. Employers, not so much. But who is Robb and why does it matter?
President Biden, who has a stronger union background than any incoming president for decades, has promised to adopt a strong pro-worker agenda, and he has already assembled a labor-focused economic team.
Congratulations to Senator Kamala Harris on her Vice-Presidential nomination. As a friend of labor, Kamala Harris understands the importance of investing in working families and fighting for marginalized workers.

America faces a crisis on three critical fronts: a public health pandemic, an economic free fall and long-standing structural racism.
As America’s labor movement, we must urgently address all three with precision and purpose. They cannot be fixed separately.
This is why we are coming together nationwide as working people on June 17 in a “Workers First Caravan for Racial and Economic Justice”—to demand Congress pass the HEROES Act and address police reforms that are urgently needed.

COVID-19 and the economic fallout from the pandemic has hit working people in this country hard. |
As congress proposes new legislation to tackle the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, we must act quickly to ensure that any new legislation puts workers first.
That Includes provisions that preserve our access to quality healthcare, protect our hard-earned pensions, and fix the broken state unemployment systems that are delaying access to critical financial assistance to millions of working families.
Viruses don’t discriminate based on immigration status. And our nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic shouldn’t either.
