Is Kaepernick's Protest Getting Lost In National Anthem Backlash?

I have a simple question regarding Colin Kaepernick and his decision to take a knee during the national anthem: What is he protesting, again?

Well, in case you’ve forgotten, it’s police brutality. It’s police brutality against people of color, a major issue in cities all over America.

But in the weeks since Kaepernick has decided to register his protest during the Star-Spangled Banner, his message has been lost. For many people, it’s only about the 49ers’ backup quarterback and whether he should be kneeling during the anthem, in the first place.

It’s not anti-military, as he’s said all along. He never intended it to be a slam against the brave men and women who serve this country in various parts of the world. But that’s how his act has been misinterpreted.

Judging from the backlash, there are many people who don't like it, even if they claim they support his decision to do what he’s free to do in the United States of America.

Again, Colin Kaepernick’s intent was to draw attention to the shooting of unarmed black men and others by members of police departments in various cities across America. In the wake of the killings, other athletes more prominent than Kaepernick spoke out against this scourge. But Kaepernick did them one better: He acted and since has caught nothing but holy hell for doing it.

In football, quarterbacks normally take a knee when they’re running out the clock and are just seconds away from a win. But by taking a knee in this case, it’s really become a no-win situation for Colin Kaepernick.
