American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten talking about Betsy Devos:
"The nominee for the Secretary of Education slot is the most ideological and anti-public education nominee that any party has ever selected.
How someone can be selected to be the chief spokesperson about the public schools and public education in America when they hate pubic education in America and have spent their adult lives undermining it is a real question."

 Devos is an Amway and Blackwater billionaire whose family has crusaded to privatize public schools.

"They want public schools to be de-funded. They worked hard to hurt the Detroit schools. And when Democrats and Republicans alike came up with a rescue plan this year her family, led by her, singlehandedly spent six weeks and $1.5 million to kill that rescue plan."

Weingarten says Betsy Devos doesn't just want to privatize public education. She wants to obliterate the separation of church and state by replacing public education with religion-dominated education.

"You're not talking about a regular pick. You're not talkin' about the spectrum from progressive to conservative.
You're talkin' about someone who has said they believe that public schools have displaced the church as the centers of community.
And they want to do what they can through de-funding, de-stabilizing, privatizing to make schools more the kingdom of God again."
