May Day L.A.: Resistance To Taking America In "Direction Of Fascism"

Former Los Angeles County Labor Federation Secretary Treasurer Maria Elena Durazo says "Resist, resist, resist. That's a pledge that more and more organizations and just individual people in this country are taking up. This is another moment - like the Women's March - to demonstrate that we oppose all of these steps frankly that are in the direction of fascism. And we won't stand for that in this country."

Durazo explains what the big May Day protest "Resist Los Angeles" is going to be about. Durazo says turnout for the May 1st protests could top a million people.  On May Day in L.A. and nationwide there will be hundreds of actions to advocate for worker and union rights, to defend immigrants, and to uphold women's rights. The May Day protest actions are resisting an extremist right wing agenda, an agenda that lost the popular vote in America.

And Durazo says it will take more than these big protests to turn back the extremist right wing agenda. She says it takes ongoing one by one organizing in communities throughout the country:

"We all stand together as one. All races, all religions, all workers. Our future really - what kind of nation we're going to be - depends on people taking action. I encourage us to not wait or expect some massive movement overnight's gonna clear everything up and solve everything. It's that one by one conversation and organizing. So I encourage everyone to participate on May Day in one way or another.  There's hundreds of events going on across the country. But don't stop there. We can't win with one day's events. Keep on, keep on, keep on."
