Connecticut public workers are facing demands from Democrat Governor Dan Malloy for $700 million in concessions. At the same time public worker unions there are contending with dozens of anti-union bills from Republicans in the state legislature. Here's Lori Pelletier, President of the Connecticut AFL-CIO, speaking at a legislative hearing about the attack on collective bargaining and unions in one of America's richest states.
Lori Pelletier: "This is more of an agenda that you would see in Mississippi or Arkansas, even Texas. All these vicious attacks against the fundamental human right of collective bargaining? Something that is covered by our Constitution, by the U.N and International law?
Collective bargaining is a sacred bond. It's not something that you can just look at in a snapshot of three years. It's an historic document.
And so the idea that this General Assembly would have bill where we're attacking workers, attacking their right to a voice at work, is beyond me.
This is not Connecticut. This is Arkansas."
