The People's Summit convenes in Chicago this weekend. Senator Bernie Sanders is headlining the event, billed as "Beyond Resistance: A People’s Movement for a Just World".
The People's Summit says "At a time of tremendous turmoil and progressive opportunity, we invite you to participate in a historic convening of organizations and individuals committed to social, racial and economic justice."
The gathering is an effort to bring together progressive activists, including some labor unions to create a People's Agenda "that can enhance and expand issue campaigns and hold all elected officials accountable to popular demands for justice, equality and freedom."
National Nurses United and UE are the only labor unions listed as convening partners. The Chicago Teachers Union isn't on the list. Neither is the AFL-CIO.
Other labor groups that are participating, though, include Our Walmart, Good Jobs Nation and United Students Against Sweatshops.
