Class Description:
What does IP65 mean?
An IP (Ingress Protection) rating is a standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that defines the degree of protection provided by an electrical enclosure against foreign objects (such as dust) and water.
An IP65 rating indicates that a lighting fixture is dust-tight (6) and protected against water jets (5). More specifically, the "6" in IP65 means that the fixture is completely dust-tight, which means that it is fully protected against dust and other small particles. The "5" indicates that the fixture is protected against water jets from any direction, meaning it can withstand being exposed to water projected by a nozzle.
Therefore, a lighting fixture with an IP65 rating is ideal for outdoor environments where it may be exposed to dust, rain, or other elements. It can be used in wet or damp locations, such as in a garden or on the outside of a building, without the risk of damage to the fixture or the electrical components inside.
