Environmental groups, some members of Congress and Environmental Protection Agency workers are urging America to save the EPA. John O’Grady is President of the AFGE National Council of EPA workers. He says even before proposed budget cuts this year EPA was underfunded and understaffed.
[John O’Grady]: “We are grossly underfunded and have been grossly underfunded for years. Secondly our staffing has gone from a high of 18,100 in 1999 and now we’re down at a level below the figure in 1988.
That is not enough people and not enough money to run an agency that protects human health and the environment.”
