Thousands of workers pushing for a $15 minimum wage and union rights will hit the streets in Chicago Monday. Joined by hospital workers, SEIU President Mary Kay Henry and Rev. William J. Barber II will march on the American Hospital Association in Chicago advocating for unions to lift Chicago’s economy for working families.
Fight For $15’s national Labor Day mobilization includes a massive worker voter engagement drive to oust anti-worker politicians.
Kayla Gray is one of the Chicago workers fighting for higher wages and a union.
Kayla Gray: “We need to make more money. What they’re paying us – the greedy corporations – they just want to pay us what they want to pay us.
And it’s not right.”
And Gray says it’s not just more money – workers need a union.
Kayla Gray: “Because they would help defend us on the job. You know, when we’re goin’ through hours bein’ cut, wages bein’ cut, not givin’ us the raise that we deserve. The union will push for getting that raise that we need. The union will help us get the raise that we deserve.”
On Labor Day Fight For $15 is organizing protests in 300 U.S. cities.
