California Unions Vow to Defeat Gig Corporations’ Measure to Strip Workers of Fundamental Protections

Instead of providing drivers with a real living wage and job protections that all workers deserve, massive gig corporations plan to spend more than $100 million to avoid complying with the law. Notice of passing: Doug Mathias passed away on October 28th, 2019

Brother Douglas Mathias, a 50-year member of Local 728, passed away on Monday October 28th, 2019 at the age of 82.

During his long and distinguished set lighting career, Doug was the Chief Lighting Technician on many top rated television series and feature films.

He stayed active after retiring from working on stage, often coming around to the Local to visit. He helped build the artifact displays in our hallway niches.

He was also one of the great contributors of photographs that are on this website from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Notice of passing of Gold Card Member Roger Lattin. Member since August 10th, 1989

It is again with a heavy heart that we must inform the membership of the passing of another Local 728 Gold Card member, that of 30 year member, 63 year old Roger Lattin. Roger was well known for his selfless dedication to the safety, education and training of all his 728 sisters and brothers as well as set lighting technicians throughout the industry. Roger was always willing to lend a hand and share his vast knowledge of electrical standards with anyone who would listen. We are truly blessed and grateful to have held the privilege and honor of calling him brother.
