AFT Applauds 18 State Attorneys General For Suing Education Secretary Betsy Devos

The American Federation of Teachers applauds the 18 state Attorneys General who are suing Education Secretary Betsy Devos over her decision to delay regulations that protect student loan borrowers.

The AFT says “The federal government has a moral and legal obligation to act as a watchdog to protect students from rip-off artists and frauds, but Betsy DeVos and this administration continue to side with predatory for-profit schools over students being defrauded.”

Fighting Fire With Fire: Idaho Teamsters To Use Right-To-Work Law Against Company Intimidation Campaign

Workers at frozen food company Lamb Weston in Twin Falls, Idaho, say the company has hired a union-busting firm to intimidate them out of joining the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.  Employees reached out to the union with concerns over wages, scheduling and health and safety issues.  An election is scheduled for mid-July.  The company currently employs over 400 workers at the plant, many of them Latino or Russian immigrants.

Painter’s Union And Supporters Rally To Free ICE Detainees

Immigrants are marching here, no papers no fear!”

Union members and community supporters rallied in San Francisco to protest the ICE detention of Painter’s union member Hugo Mejia and United Brotherhood of Carpenters member Rodrigo Nunez. The two were handed over to ICE when they showed up for work at Travis Air Force base in northern California. They have been in detention for over a month with no hearing on their cases.
