Instructor Bio:
Born and raised in Hawai’i, Daniel moved to L.A. in 1993 to attend CalArts. After graduating in 1995 with his BFA in Lighting Design, he started working at Light and Sound Design where he went out on tour with many musical acts.
Starting as a lighting tech, he worked his way up and by 1999 he became the production designer for Tori Amos. From 1999 until 2008, Daniel designed and toured with different artists including A Perfect Circle, Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, and Blue Man Group.
With the birth of his son in 2008, he decided to concentrate on work closer to home in Los Angeles, and joined Local 728 in 2010. He’s worked on numerous television shows and specials as a lighting director. Since 2012, he’s been one of the lighting directors for The Voice at NBC Universal.
Although he doesn’t actively tour anymore, Daniel has continued over the years to create designs for artist like Lil Wayne, Logic, and Jill Scott. To this day he still designs and directs for Eminem, a client he’s worked with since 2001.
Daniel has recently starting doing more design work for corporate events, and in 2022 designed 4 of the main show floors and theaters for Saleforce’s tech conference, Dreamforce in San Francisco.
In addition to GrandMA3 training for Local 728, he trains for Local 33 and is a freelance trainer for ACT Entertainment. Daniel has worked with the GrandMA console software since the GrandMA1.
When not found behind a GrandMA3, Daniel can be found riding his bike (not often enough), or vacationing with his family in Hawai’i or floating around on a cruise ship.
